I bought this car from the previous owner (who was the father of the first official owner, the car stayed in the same family until i bought it). He gave me a complete folder of all prior work done on the car that i will pass on to the next owner. Registration is current. I had a smog check done when i bought it and it passed just fine. the engine is in great working condition. The driver´s side automatic window control needs new motor... currently the glass is pushed down and trapped in the door panel... been driving with a plastic cover on the window... the door panel just needs to be unscrewed and the window pulled up above the rubber and it stays up on its own, although it won´t roll down without the new motor... Either i will get around to doing this before sale or the new owner can take care of it... just waiting for a sunny day... I bought the window motor ($50) and never got around to fixing it. The heater also doesn´t work, didn´t when i bought it... bought the thermostat part for the heater and didn´t install it... I will include these two parts (the window motor and heater thermostat) in the total price. The only other problem is that the tail lights are busted but an easy fix... the plastic covers were old and cracked off after a couple of weeks of driving in North West winter weather... i have most (if not all) replacement bulbs in the trunk... just need to screw them in and tape them up with red and yellow to make it legal to drive the car away. The quote i was given on replacing the tail light covers was between $50 to $100, depending on the distributor... I am willing to negotiate on the price if necessary. I bought this for $1600 only a few months ago and have only driven a few thousand miles... aside from the tail lights, the car is in basically the same condition as when i bought it, so I would like to get as close to $1300 as i can for it. I will also include a few other extras: grey faux fur steering wheel cover, seat cover and seat belt cover, plastic iphone holder, plastic two cup holder. The cd player that is in it is on the blink but it was a cheap one, so oh well... i believe i still have the sony that was in it when i bought it that i will gladly give to the next owner... bought another one because the original didn´t have an auxilary input for my phone to play music from. My reason for selling is simply that i have changed my mind about the lifestyle that comes along with owning a vehicle... I am switching to bicycle and walking for the sake of my own health and that of the earth. I was in love with this car when i bought it... and i still am as cars go, but i feel that it will be put to better use in someone else´s possession. The interior is definitely used but in pretty decent condition... no major rips or anything.The back seats fold down to make even more space in the very big back compartment. There is also a back hatch in the floor of the trunk with extra storage space above the spare tire. Comes with built in tool box and set. There is a metal rack on top and the car is capable of hauling quite heavy loads without any noticeable strain on the engine. I moved myself and my family and all of our belongings (the car was full to the max) from the California bay area to eugene oregon without any problems. Overall, this is a very quality vehicle that needs a little TLC to last the next owner for another 10 years at least. Great for families, for long distance or daily driver, great for a new driver (Volvo is the safest car ever!), even for gardening or industrial work/hauling supplies, etc. I am looking for someone who will value the internal quality of this car and will care enough to fix up the minor problems it has. Details: This car has been a great friend and kept me smiling and sane through some hard times for about 11 years and it´s time to sell it.My ownership of the car started and a nice clean Volvo 144 automatic that spent it´s life as a commuter car in down town Portland Oregon. I got a great deal on it as it ran poorly (flat cam) and the brakes did not work. I promptly pulled the engine and rebuilt, balanced and blueprinted it, replaced the plugged up brake lines with IPD steel braided lines and got it running, then 3 Borg Warner type 35 transmissions later it became a reliable driver. That was about the time I discovered Autocross and hill climbs and decided to give it a try... And from there the car became what it is today...-The engine bottom end is the original B20 bored 30 over with Mahle pistons, chrome rings, balanced and blueprinted with and Isky Racing cam solid Chevy lifters, Ipd push rods, 164 aluminum timing gear set, the oil pan is baffled and has a wind-age tray. The Head is a Big valve Canadian head from a 1971 carbureted B20. It has Isky (Chevy) double valve springs, with Ipd retainers, and has been ported, polished, port matched, and milled .100 to achieve an 11:1 compression ratio. The induction is achieved through a pair in Weber 40DCOE carburetors with 3´ stainless steel velocity stacks, a Warneford intake manifold, and a custom aluminum cold air box. The Exhaust consists of a Swedish tri Y header with a 2.5 inch collector into a 2.5´ 40series Flowmaster muffler and a passenger side exit before the rear tire. The radiator has been upgraded to a smaller aluminum racing radiator. The ignition system consists of a later model aluminum Bosch distributor w/out vacuum advance and a Pertronix igniter that feeds the MSD 6AL ignition and then the MSD blaster 2 coil. The engine has had Amsoil Synthetic oil it´s entire life; first passenger car oil and then race oil. I have had periodic oil analysis done after every other season of racing with very good results. -The Drive train is a custom lightened flywheel, sachs clutch and heavy duty pressure plate, stock rebuilt M40 transmission, custom shortened drive shaft, and Dana 30 rear end with a rebuilt plate type limited slip differential, and new 530:1 gears.-The Front suspension is heavily modified. The lower A arms are reinforced with steel bushings. the spindles have been ground and polished for strength. The upper A arms are steel bushed Stock car A Arms with infinitely adjustable mount plates. Qa1 custom valved shocks. Custom length and rated coil springs with hidden adjustable weight jacks (covered by the cross member) and Ipd racing sway bar. -The rear Suspension is very similar to the original 5 link suspension, modified trailing arms with adjustable heim joints replacing the large rubber bushings. The upper torque rods are replaced with aluminum adjustable rods with heim joints and the panhard rod is replaced with a custom watts link system (a must see). In addition is an IPD racing adjustable rear sway bar.-The Brakes are totally rebuilt stock brakes with steel braided lines and Hawk low temp racing pads, the parking brake system has been removed to conserve weight.-The body of the car has stripped to bare metal. All the rust spots cut out and patched and the structural seams have been additionally welded for stiffness. All the sound deadening and almost of the undercoating has been removed. The doors are gutted and (Swiss cheesed) on the inside and windows and frames are removed. All of the trim on the car except around the windshield is removed and the holes filled. The dash, heater, backseat, carpeting, wiring and all the unnecessary weight is removed and replaced with just the bare necessities. The front Fenders have been replaced with Extremely Rare fiberglass fenders with the turn signal lights omitted. The front bumper is removed; the core support has been lightened. The hood and trunk lids are both Extremely Rare fiberglass versions of the originals and all the hinges and latches are removed and replaced with pins and Duze fasteners. The rear fenders are flared to accommodation the Hoosier 225-45-ZR15 on Diamond racing wheels (Dry tires)as well as the Toyo Proxis RA1 tires on widened stock wheels (rain tires). The engine and transmission have been moved back almost 2´ to better the car balance. The driver´s seat is a Momo racing seat and the passenger seat is a Kirkey racing seat. The car has been primed and painted White with a clear coat on the outside as well. The car weighs 1900lbs. The car comes with its trailer, tie downs and some spare parts. Details: This is a 1989 Volvo 740 Turbo Wagon with 208,000 miles on it, automatic transmission, non-diesel, clean title. Like any 23-year old car, it needs some work. I had it checked out by our mechanic in Nov and he told me the harmonic balancer will need to be replaced very soon and recommended that I not drive it too far out of town until that was taken care of. The engine has an oil leak somewhere. The turbo has trouble kicking in when it should. The brakes sing a lovely song to you when you stop but that´s just because they´re cheap brakes, they´re in good condition and have plenty of miles left on them. The interior is what we call ´well-loved.´ It has a few other quirks but it runs and will get you from point A to B.
